430ci cruise o matic

Post by dimitri »

Hi all,

I restored my 65 Lincoln completely and rebuild my cruise o matic . 1000 miles later the transmission is death again
Now its very bad can't rebuild it anymore .
All hard part are broken and the damage is beyond repair
I was surfing the net and seems to be very hard to find a replacement transmission for my Lincoln
As I’m from Belgium its makes is 1000x harder

Do someone know a solution ?
can I swap to a other transmission ?
Can someone find and send me one ?

OK....430 is an MEL engine. which if i remember correctly has its own bell housing pattern. There were some early MEL blocks that ran the FE pattern, but those were real early, like...late 50's ??????
It looks as though your bell housing and tailstock are still in useable condition.
If they are, all you really need is the center/drive section of the trans.
Here is where it gets tricky. Different applications used different length center section cases. ie: a Mercury would be one size if bolted to a small v-8 vs a Lincoln bolted up to your 430.
There was something about the Cruise-o-matic case behind the MEL engines that was bigger or heavier duty than the rest of the cruise-o-matic cases.
I wonder if the Cruise-o-matic case (ie: center section) from an FE trans, ie: 352,390,410, would work correctly with your bell housing and tailstock ????
It might be an option ???? Maybe ????

I really don't know to much about the early Cruise-o-matics. Not sure what would swap around ????

There was/is a member on this board, goes by the name of Hawkrod, who is extremely knowledgeable about Ford stuff from that era.
If you can contact him, maybe he can help shed some light on your issues.
Good luck with it.
