Stock 70 3spd clutch issue.

Post by lestrange04 »

Not new to the site. Any info I needed, I got from here. There are many knowledgeable people on here. I c an not find a search term for this issue. Yes there is slip everywhere... But why did my clutch pedal start grabbing closer to the floor day by day (past 3 days)? Here is the video link next post (sorry, thought it was copied from my phone browser).

Lets are if I pushed exit button

Clutch grabs 2 inches from floor. It gets better if the slop doesn't move, but WHY does it move?!?

Don't overthink it. Pull the trans, bell housing etc. You've got some parts to replace. The throw out fork and/or bearing have come apart or bent. Clutch and pressure plate are no doubt due for replacement as well.

Also check your clutch fork pivot bracket and springs. Same thing happened to me. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... ot#p387682

Update, Broke down the tranny this morning. Clutch fork rivets were the culprit. Can I knock the rivets out of the tranny case or drill them? Its still under the truck and firewall is prohibiting removal. First time I've ever had to remove it. Either way, glad it isn't a new clutch kit.

I hope you're not running a pressure plate with too stiff of springs. This will can cause this problem.

There was no transmission bolts to the mount when I took it apart. After 15 years would that have anything to do with it. Front u joint bolts were slack by ratchet standards. Clutch came from Auto Zone when it was replaced. Own supposedly.

Do you mean no bolts where the transmission mounts to the crossmember? That would definitely cause issues and may have been a contributing factor to your u-joints being loose.

Correct. Both bolts for transmission mount to crossmember were not there. That explains A LOT about vibration and rough riding over hills/holes and dirt roads.

That's probably the root of all your problems.
