28 spline axle interchange

Post by idaford »

Ok I have a 1969 f100 with 28 spline axles. I took them in to get new bearings pressed in while rebuilding my center section. I had planned on having them install a Eaton true trac at the same time. The shop called me and said one of my axles must have spun a bearing and I should find another axle. I tried looking at the locale junk yards and could not find any 67-72 1/2 tons. I did see a couple of 61-66 ford 1/2 tons. I was wondering if they would work? I have been looking all over the internet and cant find a answer. What other options are there?

As far as I know no , even 67s are different ,the spacing from the bearing flange to the face is different.
They will fit the housing but the brake drum will not fit properly.

From what I can tell that might be the same problem with the pre 67 too.
