Automatic Flexplate

Post by spacecadet »

I've found pretty dismal reviews for flexplates available online.

Any suggestions on where to get a good one? Im missing a tooth or a few and it's giving me hard starts once and while.

Any place like Napa should either have them or be able to order one.

I will go that route, wasn't sure if there was a known better option.

Another question: With the flexplate off can the rear main seal be done or does that require more tear down? From what I've seen it appears to me that you need to remove the oil pan and bearing caps?

Oilpan comes off and rear main cap. More caps if it's a rope seal and not 2 piece neoprene.

Boneheaded move on my part...put my new flexplate on, trans back on, almost done. Realized I forgot to install the backer plate on the flexplate. Deal breaker???

Do you mean the plate that goes between the transmission and the engine block? Isn't that where the hole the starter bolts into is?

Yep

Tear it back apart and install the block saver plate

It correctly locates the starter

Both in depth of engagement and side to side

Ditto. Consider it the penance for not paying attention to the details. The last thing I would want is dirt / trash getting up around the converter seals.
