REALLY, REALLY hard to locate?

I found a company to help with my ZF5 install behind the 429 but need to locate the plate that installs between the Trans and engine (FORD part number E8TZ7007A). I can locate a plate for the diesel version or I can find one for a different year... I even found one for a C6 Automatic.... I need the plate from a 1988 truck with a 460 and ZF 5 speed in it. Ford quit making them and it seems to be the only part I'm missing.. ANY ideas?

Make one out of 14 gauge aluminum. If you have the tranny you have the template. The starter hole might be a PITA to lay out but otherwise it should be pretty simple.

:yt: A hole saw the same size as the register on starter use a drill press, clamp a piece of 2x8 behind the 14ga for the saws center drill to set in for alignment/support. Then use the starter/starter hole as the baseline for the rest of your layout....or clamp it to the ZF's bell and use it as a drill jig that i think would be my first choice but a transfer punch would leave it ready to drill on the drill press if that would make you more comfortable ,either way with a bit of luck your in business :thup:

The guy I spoke to at L&L was specific about getting one that was in front of the "ZF" trans as the tolerances would be absolutely correct...? He says the ones for the 351,400,429 and 460 are based on the engine and those would work with "other" manual transmissions but not the "ZF" as that's what I have... Looks like wrecking yards is about my only real option so far.. possibly Ebay...

Since the starter bolts to the tranny, you would need a plate made for that trans. A homemade plate would rely on the bolts to locate the starter and you may not get correct teeth engagement. I'm surprised Ford doesn't have any old stock for them.

I went to FORD and it's DISCONTINUED... Part # E8TZ-7007A...

My buddy stopped by and he has a 400 spacer plate and a ZF5 sitting at the farm. If I remember I'll try to see if there is a difference between the plate and the starter bolt holes. Hopefully the regular old style plate will work on the zf5.

I have used the search through www.partshotlines dot.com for spindles and other parts for our trucks. Can't hurt to look.
