re: Metal dash v/s padded
Larry, that is a beautiful truck! Seeing those pictures made me decide to go smooth dash on mine (though I want to graft in different/better defroster vents).

1. I didn't have the bed until a few weeks before i put it back together. the bed i have came off a truck that a pine tree fell on, and it tweaked the bed. until i drop the dollars to have it straightened at a body shop, i didn't figure it would be wise to start any unfinishable body work. did i mention the price was right?mrsnicks wrote:Great Job Larry,
I too am going with the smoothed dash option. I have yet to weld in the holes, just sanded down and painted right now. I also want to shave my drips rails, and fill in the hood seams like you did. Couple questions:
1. You didnt fill in the bed seam, why?
2. Can you give me some tips on shaving the drip rails. I started grinding mind off, and found that they are 2 pieces of metal.. how you keep them from seperating once you ground them down?
forgive me if there is a "how to" on the drip rails.
Thanks,
Patrick
2. on the drip rails..... i started with my sawzall, took the rail off as close as i could with it. then used a 4 inch angle grinder to grind it down. I skipped around with the grinder, taking a couple or five inches down to where i wanted, skipped a couple inches, ground a couple, all the way across. then i migged what i'd ground, and then ground what i had left behind. I figured if i didn't remove all the drip rail at once, the cab would have less chance of shifting on me. clear as mud?grind weld grind weld grind filler sand filler sand filler...... kind of repititous until you get it where you want it.
thanks guys. if you haven't heard me type it before, "if i can do it, anyone can."
