New Here- Help with Diff Dana 60 71 F250 CS

Post by captchuck »

Hi All- I have searched all over this site and have not found a concrete answer to this.

I have a new to me 1971 F250 CS w/ 360.

This one has an International Dana 60 (Powr Lok) Rear on it that is different from the Ford Dana 60. it has 4.10 gears in it. The spindles are pitted, and the seals leak- I want to find a Ford replacement rear- 8 lug Dana with Posi that is bolt on.. Discs would be cool- but drums are fine.

What are my options if any? Much appreciated. I am new to all of this.

Thanks!

I believe that any ford dana 60 after 72 is going to have spring pads in different locations due to the wider rear section of frame form 73 on? I could be wrong and I hope somebody corrects me if I am. So I think your going to have to find a 67-72 dana 60 and just build it the way you want. nobody is going to make a complete axle assembly for that new out of a magazine. otherwise you can find a later rear end and cut and weld the springs pads to where you need them, :hmm:

Thanks Guys for the advice.

I have polished up the spindle as best as I can- and filled the pits with JB weld (OK start flaming me out on this one... :D ) I will try to run it for as long as I can. In the meantime, I would love to look around for a newer rear. Ideally 8 lug. I suppose I need to just measure from flange to flange (behind brake housing?) and see what is out there?

Thanks for the help- I am such a newbie to all of this.

A 82-92 10.25 Sterling or a later 93 to 98 will give you parts support and traction device options but 93-98 has a better pinion in it. Also, both will still be 8x6.5 pattern so you can use the wheels you already have to match the front. Also if your interested a company called TSM makes a disk conversion for it with a parking brakes or without.

A SRW full floating 10.25 should have a 66.5" WMS for all years but I would measure them to be sure. Just so you know there are DRW and Chassis Cab full floats as well as SRW semi float Sterling's out there so just be careful. Each will vary in WMS and Spring Perch Spacing so measure them to confirm what you looking at. I had all the specs for each when I was looking for mine but I cant seem to locate them at the moment

FWIW I got a 94 SRW full Float with 66.5 WMS for my 68 that will get the TSM Disk Conversion.

Thanks- did you have to move the spring plates etc? I assume so.

Seems like there are a few Sterlings out there to choose from.

Yes, I purchased a set of 2.25 spring perches from Ruff Stuff along with their shock mounts for my Sterling. I am not sure yet if I'll use the shock mounts as I have the stock lower mounts from a F350 that goes under the axle plate and held in with the u bolts. I found that my truck has a Dana 70 with the main and auxiliary springs and shock mounts that a F350 would have in the back of my truck.
