Studebaker trucks

It's a shame. I grew up a few miles away from the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, Indiana and never did visit. Avanti's were made there too.

I bought a '51 Stude 2R for $400 several years ago, it was intended to be the tow vehicle for my 442. However, right about that time Mary and I found out she was pregnant, and since money was going to be much tighter, I decided to get something that wouldn't be such a money pit....which is why I bought my present Ford project. Here's a pic of it right after I brought it home:



...and here's a shot of what I was going to do with it. I wanted to create an extended-cab dually, by mounting it on a Ch*vy crewcab dually chassis. This is what I whipped up in Photoshop to get the visual:



I'd actually gotten started by completely stripping the cab down to bare metal, and was working on widening out the rear fenders when the project got dropped, and sold to someone in Illinois.

If I'm still alive and kicking when all the rugrats are out of the house, I might just try this project again with another 'Stude.

Those old "round-cab" Studes were built tough... came out of the same assembly line as Sherman Tanks and '58 Buick bumpers....

oh boy, my girlfriends dad has a hotrod shop and re-builds 4x4's. he has a 46 studebaker 4x4 that is lifted 5 inches, has a ford 427 in it thats been bored over and has a toyota blue paint job on it. i have only got to drive it once but let me tell you, that baby is a white knuckler

Yeah, those Stude trucks are cool as hell. Make great hot rod. I dig the stylized bed sides. There is one in Ballard that I drive by all the time and wanted to ask the owner if he'd part with it. Fortunately I've never taken the time to inquire.

Well, if the bumpsides don't work out tomorrow, maybe I'll buy the Studebaker. Can't be any weirder than anything else I've done.

I think those round cab Studes are too cool. I do know that engine parts are pricey if you can get them at all. I'd have to throw in a more modern motor.

I really dig the stude pickups. I saw one one time that I was going to go back and buy, but that is another story. I did have a '51 stude bulletnose starlight coupe once upon a time. Wish I still had that one...

The Stude is one of the best lookin P/U's ever built. My opinion. If you
ever see one done up right, well maybee you'll like them too.
Another pretty one is a Diamond-Reo. Or even a White-Mustang.
