It looks rough but you might as well run it until you find a new one. I had a rusty tailgate that would have taken some work that I pitched and I still haven't found a good one. I'm kicking myself for it now.

If you clean it up and coat it with converter it shouldn't get worse. Run it while you look for another better one if you can find one reasonably.

I think you all are right, I’ll hold onto it until I come along something better. I’d be a shame to scrap an entire bed and ruin the presentation of a complete truck.

Well, it’s been a long time coming, but the stars lined up and I FINALLY got the Wally truck home. Now I can really start making some progress and get this thing looking more like a real truck!

That's a happy picture there...... For the bed heck hold onto it if you find something better great if not they are not making any more bump beds..... So fix it. Or do i need to find a good one and bring it up when i visit Ron.. How far you out of Cumberland MD???

I'm not opposed to a more rust free southern bed!!... Looks like I am about 3 hrs and 45 mins from Cumberland. I'm located in Waterford, Pa 16441. But that's sort of my thought too, its better than the bed that's currently on the truck!

Got the old bed bolts from the flatbed sprayed down with penetrating oil last night, plan is to unbolt them and use them to secure the styleside bed to the truck.
I also took a better look at the transfer case (since I can't get the gear selector to move). Looks like I will have to douse all of the connections in penetrating oil for a few days and see if I can't get it to budge.
One of the two hubs can be twisted into the "lock" position, the other one is currently stuck, will have to head over to the "4x4 & Off-Road" section to find some info.
Other than that, I did buy new oil for the 390 this weekend, hope to get that changed soon and also pressure wash the engine bay.
Updates to come! I want to get this thing running!

If I were you I'd get all new bolts. I just used carriage bolts for the bed and all new body bolts- probably like 30 buck but saves so much time and they look sharp.
Maybe try rocking the truck back and forth while you try to shift the transfer case. My last truck wouldn't shift unless I rocked it slightly. Excited to see this one under way!

If I were you I'd get all new bolts. I just used carriage bolts for the bed and all new body bolts- probably like 30 buck but saves so much time and they look sharp.
Maybe try rocking the truck back and forth while you try to shift the transfer case. My last truck wouldn't shift unless I rocked it slightly. Excited to see this one under way!

Honestly, the more I look at this truck, the more work I see. I can't get the T-case to shift at all, someone welded a T case support to the housing using angle iron. The frame has two holes in it where the rear leaf spring hangers are, the rear of the frame is bent slightly from where someone pulled the truck out of the mud, and those are the issues I can see. Who knows what else will be revealed when I take the body off. Since I know there is a more solid 1969 F-250 4x4 that I have permission to have (see earlier posts in thread), I may just take the 4x4 components and running gear out of this truck and scrap the rest. I honestly would hate to do that, but the foundation of this truck is pretty rough...

They are all tons of work, and sadly the 4x4 trucks got beat to pieces in, and thru the years. You have to see but if you can make another chassis work then pick this one clean and go. Best way to not find something to fix is don't look

Awesome to see you finally got it home. I'm sure there are some salvageable pieces or parts to sell. If you pick up the other one does that make three bumps? You might have a problem

Haha I see no problem.. 3 bumps is just 3 times the awesome. My Misses on the other hand is NOT impressed with my 6 bumps.
Not sure how hard its going to hit the fan when the next one shows up. I NEED a 4 door bump... doesn't everyone?
Glad I have a garage to sleep in, cause I'm likely to spend some time out there soon.

I do have a problem! And funny you post, because this past weekend I finally got some time in on the truck this past weekend. First I disconnected the driveshafts from the transfer case, and removed the ol’ Dana 24.

After that, (to show the township I’m making progress and attempting to “remove the eyesore”) I removed the rear axle from the truck. The U bolts were very rusty, so I didn’t even try to unbolt them.

I was able to jack the truck up and remove the rear axle. Here’s where I’m at currently. I’ve begun removing all of the interior so I can take the glass out next.

This truck must be completely torn down before I bring the ‘69 home!

6 door cabs were not manufactured! If you want a 6 door bump cab you will have to buy 3 cabs and fabricate your own!

Haha, yes, I'm aware of that, but have seen a few in years past that people have built. Am hoping to capitalize on their efforts to save some time on fabrication.
