did I screw up and put my flexplate on backwards ??

Post by SoCal250 »

I have a vibration I looked for the wieght on the flexplate seen during install not after it is a pioneer heavy duty 184 tooth jegs special flywheel on my C6 390 looks like it does not seat right transmission shop said sounds like I installed bacwards .
1 the weight should be facing engine
2 the dished taperd part of the flex should face the engine
3 small vibration and I had to shim my starter or it rubbed on the teeth of the flexplate .

Should it have a weight?

If you flip the flexplate where does the drain go?

I took the pic to the shop that rebuilt the trans he said it looked right in the pic I turned it 360 I seen no wieght at all only thing I can think is stick something on like heavy magnet give it a few blips to 2,500 see if it smooths out and Mark each place I put it with chalk till.i find the sweet spot ..other wise me do it take 3 weekends or take it to him and pay 400 that's 125 per weekend lol .....

I wouldn't experiment with that , you might wear the bearing out prematurely.

Can you look at a known stock flywheel and determine if and where the weight is ,even a picture?
Being a new part it is possible someone screwed up.

I was told to use the same number of teeth that was originally if you don't you can have starter problems. Hope this helps.

I ran a 390 years ago and im fairly certain the 360/390 engines were neutral balance without a weight on the flexplate. I think the only Fe engines that were externally balanced were the 410 and 428 engines. Someone correct me if im wrong.
