What do I do with this

Post by Jsimon »

Here is a picture of the bottom of my cab. The eye bolt is in my cab mount
20200127_195412_compress62.jpg
I've done the floors, rockers, a pillars, firewall, etc so I dont want to give up now, but when I started the rear cab corners I realized how bad the middle between the cab mounts is. (Its worse than the picture shows) Anyone got any tips for tackling this? Not much to weld to, might be using por-15 and body panel epoxy. Not looking for pretty, just solid.

Well LMC has a cross member for $150.

Or you can get some light cardboard or heavy paper ,and cut and paste up a template.

Take it to a fab shop and see what they'll charge you for some metal.
if you're handy you can cut your own pieces and save some money.

It's not the crossmember, here's a better picture

It's the very back of the cab under the fuel tank shelf.

No easy way out. You just gotta fab and weld a new piece.

Your floor repair looks nice ,
working in that position shouldn't be that bad.

measure carefully before you start cutting.

Cut out the bad last night, much less intimidating than I thought it would be, here's what it looks like underneath

There were two rusted out layers, the bottom of the cab and then a u channel frame below that which held the cab mount spacer. I'll patch the floor then recreate the u channel and cover it with another sheet. No one will ever see it. :hd:

Good job. You saved the threaded holes for the seatbelts/seat runners (?)

Finished the outer panel with 16ga metal, reused the original spacer for the cab mount and everything lined up great. Only thing left is to put the seatbelt nuts back on.

Sometimes you just dive in and figure it out as you go. but obviously you have skill by your previous repair work.
