Re: Welcome: Raven!
Thanks all, I haven't given it another try yet. I do plan on hooking up a battery to see what will happen. I have to change the key cylinder first though, since I did not get a key with this truck. After I do that, I will hook up a battery and try bumping the starter to see if it will break it free. I may add more MMO first. I don't think all of the cylinders are completely full. For whatever that is worth. I will bump the starter with the plugs out, one to get as much oil out of the cylinders, in case it does break free, and two, so it doesn't start, if I do put a breaker bar on it like suggested. I'm still not sure how I feel about that suggestion. It sounds like it could get sketchy in a hurry.
But yes, I will keep you all posted.
I want to revive this truck so badly.

Re: Welcome: Raven!
I would put the breaker bar on it and connect a ratchet strap somewhere. That way I can ratchet tension on the bar and be out of the way. Also a remote starter switch so I wouldn't have to depend on somebody else to bump the key. That way I'm in control and still be able to see what's happening.

Raven: The Saga Continues
I do! In November, when I put my 69 F-100 away for the winter, I took the battery out and threw it in Raven to see what all would come on! To my surprise, the electrical system seemed to be in good order! Many of the lights came on!

Re: Welcome: Raven!
Not long after the holidays, I got the bright idea to try to give it a crank to see what the starter would do. I remembered that I had a spare key cylinder and starter relay from the ‘70 that I had previously parted! (Since I did not receive a key with Raven).
So I removed the starter switch and cylinder, ran to the garage, and to my dismay, the switch plug changed with the 1970 model year to a different style.
(1970 style on left, 1967-1969 style on the right)
So. I had to order a new ignition switch before attempting to start.

Re: Welcome: Raven!
Life got busy again, but I ended up getting a switch and getting around to putting some serious time into the truck this past weekend.
First, was hooking up the new starter switch and ignition cylinder. All went well.
I hooked up the battery, turned the key to auxiliary, and the radio started blaring an AM sports channel loud and clear. I turned it to “start” and all I received was a clicking sound. The starter was engaging, and attempting to turn the engine. The serpentine belt was clearly shifting back and forth about a 1/16 of an inch or so, but not “turning over” by any means.
After the disappointing outcome, we put a breaker bar to the crank pulley, with a pipe, and could barely get it to turn. We did maybe one full rotation of the pulley and called it a day on that effort.
We then filled each cylinder to the brim with some used oil I had in jugs. It’s the most oil those cylinders have ever seen at one time.
Then it was on to moving it. I hooked my ‘76 F250 up the the front of the truck and pulled it forward onto the blacktop portion of my driveway. It drug the rear right tire the entire way in neutral.
So we lifted the rear end. Attempted to spin the left rear tire, it would not spin because the right rear was hung up. So we pulled the tire and the axle as well. Then the rear left would spin freely. So we knew it was the brakes on that side that were froze. I backed the adjuster all the way off and beat the snot out of the drum, but it was to no avail. That side would still not spin. But, while I had the tire off, I figured I might as well put a freshly painted rim there.
I also removed the light bar from the cab roof. So with one painted rim, no more light bar, and all cylinders full of oil, I’d say I got quite a bit accomplished on the old girl this weekend.

Re: Welcome: Raven!
Another interesting note. When we went to put the axle shaft back in, without sliding it all the way in, but with the teeth engaged, my brother was able to turn it and the driveshaft with the truck in gear... I'm not sure if this should be possible, but he was able to do it in every gear, even neutral. The clutch return spring isnt working at the moment, so that will be on my list of things to fix. that way I know that everything to do with the clutch is fully engaging/disengaging.

Re: Raven: The Saga Continues
Nothing major, but I was able to get the other painted rim and some mirrors thrown on the truck to at least make it “presentable” and not like something that was drug out of the woods and placed in my yard.
I’ve been trying to move the crank pulley every other day or so with a breaker bar, but haven’t made much progress. It’s still very hard to move with the breaker bar.

Keep working the crank. My friend worked his, daily, for 2 weeks before he made a full revolution.

Re: Raven: The Saga Continues
Will do! Plan to turn it quite a bit today, since it is going to be so nice. Hopefully that will produce some results.
I also plan to get the F100 out of hibernation while the ground is firm, and before it rains for two weeks straight...

Re: Raven: The Saga Continues
Again, no huge news, but I was able to accomplish a few things this past weekend.
First, I came across two 3/4 ton 80’s style hubcaps and threw them on the rear of the truck. If nothing else, just to keep the hubs out of the 2-3 weeks of rain we’re about to get. I don’t think it looks bad, but it will definitely look better once I come across a pair of front caps.
In other news, I was able to get my F100 out to join the rest of the crew.
After that, I worked on the crank pulley a little more. After thinking about what sargentrs said, I thought it would be nice to know when I made a full revolution somehow. So I added a spray paint dot to the pulley... but I realized that when I was turning the bolt, that the pulley was not moving... this doesn’t seem right to me...

Re: Raven: The Saga Continues
The simple thing may be to remove the inspection cover at the flywheel. Once you have that access you can use a bar with a flat end. Engage the flywheel tooth with the bar and pry it around. You will be able the apply a lot more force this way so go slow. Make sure you have the plugs out and safety glasses on. Since any fluid you have put in the cylinders is going to come out once it starts turning.
