No power from ignition after steering collar failure..?

To start things off...my steering collar broke and i was unable to change or select a gear (auto). I dissected down into the column and found the broken collar/pot metal. Have a new one of order...

but in the process (or maybe completely unrelated?) it have no power coming from the ignition switch now.

I can jump the solenoid and start the truck and even have headlights/tailights etc.

Turning the key is as if there were no battery in the truck at all..???

I noticed a slider type of switch mechanism at the bottom of the steering column and thought it may be a P or Neutral safety but sliding it to a new position doesn't make any difference.

Should anything in the steering column affect this or is it random?

The selector at the bottom of the automatic steering column is the Neutral Safety Switch, if this is not adjusted correctly your truck will not start. The tang needs to be over to the left for your truck to start in park. Here are a couple threads that talk about the issue, with some pictures:
