'76 Master Cylinder with a '70 Booster?

Hi, I have a '70 f100 with factory power drums and recently picked up most of the parts from a '76 disc brake donor f150.

I just replaced the '70s brake booster about 2 years ago with a correct one for the '70 f100..... Can I still use it with (I'm assuming I need) a new '76 Master cylinder?


I know i need to get a proportioning valve as well.....

If the master bolts to the booster, then yes. I used Cardone 54-73515 booster.

I am 99% sure it will bolt up, Yes you need a disc/drum master, the reservoir is larger and the valving is different, a drum/drum master could cause front brake drag. You need 3 valves, differential, metering, and proportioning, a combination valve with all 3 built into one unit is the best.
Usually, disc brakes use a dual diaphragm booster, whereas drum brakes were single. I would use what you have, if you feel you want more boost in the future, you can swap in a '76 then.

My bad, somehow I misunderstood the question.
I did a disc conversion on my 72. Used the aforementioned booster with a 77 disc/drum master and a P2 combo valve.
I initially went with an aftermarket master/booster combo and then later switched it to the 77 OEM stuff.

thanks you guys for the answers.

I wasn't aware there were that many valves involved. I'll grab one of the combination ones. Is it important to have one that allows you to adjust the distribution ?

You don’t need an adjustable valve.
4-wheel disc combo valve is a PV4

This forum has a disc brake tutorial in the technical articles section.
Don't worry too much about the 3 separate valves, they were just used on the earliest systems on Lincolns and T Birds, by the '70s, Ford was using combo valves. Anything you order for your truck should be that, but use the term "combo valve" when ordering, just to be sure.
