re: Headliner Speakers
woaaanelly, I just installed new window felt and am having the floor and firewall rhino lined, so it should be pretty quiet in the cab. the highliner still has'nt come. I want to put a 6x9 under the dash for now, and a sub behind the seat later after i can relocate the gas tank. anyone know if a 6x9 will fit under the dash?

re: Headliner Speakers
Got my headliner today. the speakers do look pretty lame, so i'll probably get some pioneers or blaupunkts. i think i'll put a 6x9 in the stock speaker place under the dash (if it will fit, I have'nt measured yet). Eventually i'll re-locate the gas tank and put a couple of 6x9's and a sub behind the seat (Then i'll be a high tech redneck), but for now i will just have the 4 4 inchers in the headliner. it looks like i need to cut the hole for the face of the cd player in the headliner, but how do i attach the cd player to the headliner, does it screw in or just rest in the little compartment? the instructions were'nt too clear and i havent gone through all the hardware yet.

re: Headliner Speakers
That rhino lining is great, but i still have to put the door weatherstripping on. I have it, i just need time. hoping to get the A.C. in by the end of the week, that way I wont have to leave my windows down. I think i'll install the headliner and my new blaupunkt cd player tomorrow, but i'm still a little confused about how the cd player attaches into the headliner. what holds it in place? do i have to shoot screws in through the bottom of the liner into the cd player mounting bracket?

re: Headliner Speakers
Here's an example of an install I did into my Panel about 15 years ago. It still sounds awesome. These Alpine speakers have been a great speaker. Those are Fosgate tweats. The Panel roof line is a bit taller than the pickup in '56 and the same is true for the 67-72 to get the speakers at that angle. Thought it might give someone some ideas though.

re: Headliner Speakers
I'll probably do that, since I already have panels that someone added speakers too (6x9's now reduced to 5x5 with a beautiful plywood adapter )
Doors do make good sound boxes, if you dampen them well (rocker shultz/rhino liner/dynamat, etc) and tighten up all the rattles. Just be sure to use a water shield over the speaker if you go this route, and make sure the weep holes are clear to keep the humidity down in the door. You can get water shields premade from most car audio suppliers.
Making new panels on the 68-72 doesn't look as easy as mine (a 67) because of the door handle pocket, but it's doable.
I'll be stripping the interior on mine in the next couple weeks (as you can see, it's pretty rough right now). So as I progress I'll post my speaker design for this truck. It seems sound, for me, is always top on the priority list for any car I get.
