My 67 has a removable panel as well. If I go with an automatic in this, at some time, I'll probably use the same shifter I used in my panel. I can't recall the name, but I think it is the same MegaShifter MercMan mentions in his post. It shifts very nicely if I want to use the manual shift part of my B&M tranny. Here's a pic of it.

Here's what I have in my '69 F-100. It's a B&M truck megashifter. It has a taller base than the car model so you don't have to reach down to shift it. I love this shifter and looks great too. It's easy to install, just drill 4 holes to mount it to the floor and 1 more hole for the shifter cable. It comes with several different brackets to work with different transmissions. As you can see in the pic, I trimmed the base at an angle so the shifter will be closer for me to shift and it fells more natural in the angled position than it does mounted flat. It's a ratchet type shifter, so you can really bang some gears with this thing.

I put a B&M unimatic into mine. Cheapest and tallest shifter other than the "light truck" mega, that B&M makes.
