Installing a stereo in my '67?

Post by Redcap »

My truck has a distinct lack of tunes...and I'm tired of it! The problem comes from having the '67 dash with the small radio hole...that someone already has already partially cut. :x I already have the bezel to make the radio look decent in the dash, but I'm kind of stumped as how to mount the darn thing!

If someone has cut out the dash opening, then they've also cut out the ears that stick out into that opening, which are needed to mount the stock radio and bezel. If you're planning on mounting a stock radio, you're going to have to weld those ears back in....or at least something similar.

The key ingredient is the rear support. My '70 had an existing bracket with a slot for attaching the rear bolt of the headunit. Really made all the differrence.

Actually, I'd rather stuff in a DIN-style CD player. But I am still kind of lost as how to attach the thing.

There is an installation kit offered to install a CD player/radio.

Someone mangled my original tabs, so i finished them off. The hole is perfect sized for a din unit. Mine just kinda sits in there and the sleeve hooks on the bottom edge to retain the radio.

I recently installed a Blaupunked Alaska II cd player in my 67. I just the standard sleeve that all CD players use. I had to file the hole in the dash a bit to get it to fit right.

Here's a photo of mine. It's an MP3 player with one of those universal type mounting cages. Mine is the stock hole with the ears cut our (or as Keith describes that process, mangled!). I've got some better photos of the process around here somewhere if you need them.
