Forbidden subject=the other FORD site.

Post by 1968_ONEHUN »

Anyone been over to the fte site lately? Was looking at some posts earlier. And alot of the posts from people looking for help have responses with links from the fte site linking them to fte sponsors for parts etc. on the post. I'm gonna say that that is wrong totally. :nono:

I have noticed that. It annoys me when someone asks about a particular part and they trot out the famous "Have you checked with our sponsors? They support this site and without them....." The main sponsor has very little for the older trucks, but someone usually feels obligated to run that line out there. Actually, I thought they had slacked off on that stuff, but I just check particular posts anyway.

(OK, I'll jump in here...I can never pass up a good 'anti-FTE' thread!) ;)

As far as I'm concerned, it's a perfect example of what I hope this site never becomes....with all the freakin' annoying advertising. What first started out as a simple banner ad across the top of every page has progressed to the Google banner along the side, which has progressed further to another ad bar in between the posts, and now they've added a FOURTH one at the bottom of every thread. And if THAT ain't bad enough, like you mentioned, every other reply is someone telling you to check out the sponsors! Oh yeah...and also their automatic links to things in their store whenver certain keywords are used in a post.

Every time I think one of their pages has been as saturated with as much advertising as possible, ol' Ken finds another nook or cranny to stuff some more into!

...and the few times I've popped in there to read a couple posts, I just get sick about the amount of misinformation being spread there. Most of the people who post "facts" have no idea what the heck they're talking about....and there's nobody experienced enough over there anymore to correct the constant factual errors. I guess I need to check them out occasionally though...it just makes me REALLY appreciate what we have here.

What really ticks me off is that it is not a site intended to help people fix their rig (ok maybe it's thinly veiled as such), but rather a site to pimp their sponsors. And if you say boo about any of them or recommend someone other than a sponsor, then it gets axed. So people are not getting the right or even all of the info. The part that pisses me off most is when none of the vendors sell a certain item and you can't post someone that does. Factory original upholstery comes to mind. When I posted about a place I found that can get the original stuff and they have the patterns to make it, it got axed because some of their sponsors sell upholstery kits, but they are poor copies of the original stuff. They're ok if you can settle or want non-original stuff, but if you want factory original, no Ford truck aftermarket parts supplier offers it. So this valuable info. to the restorer is lost on everyone (except here, ofcourse!).

I finally got so tired of the BS over there that I removed their link from my favorites folder. And it takes a lot before I do that.

That's why I like this site...Most people here seem to be of the working class and don't just hand somebody $50,000 and say "here, build me a cool truck"...There never seems to be a lot of support for the 'shadetree' hobbyest or restorer...The big advertisers don't seem to advertise for the love of the automotive field, but rather to make a buck...

One of the dicouraging things about restoring old vehicles is the high cost of original parts as it is,and when certain sponsors are allowed a monopoly on a free forum, the true intent of the forum takes a backseat to the money to be made...It eventually becomes a lose-lose situation...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

Hey a GREAT IDEA for a T-Shirt!!!
Big letters- FTE with the red circle and diagonal line,
and Just Say No to FTE.

I'd wear it at SuperNats in a heart beat.

Man,
I got sucked into another anti-FTE thread:
BigRed Says

"Club FTE offers Ford truck, van and SUV owners an opportunity to benefit with
expanded features and speed on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts web site at a value price:......"

Funny they send that email out. It SHOULD read:

Fordification is the only truck site you'll ever need.

I have never been a member of "THAT" site but I may become one to be a major PITA. Outa go over there and say I have a 71 and some guy named Keith has a really good site and on and on. Just to rile some feathers.
