trukcrazy,
Thanks for the compliment. But Im just a guy who loves his truck.
Cant be compared to Keith or Wideguage. Their way outa my league.
Im just doing the best I can with what I've got and the photo's I post do not show most of the flaws.
It would be great to meet you at a GTG in north Florida. I think we have enough members in Florida & Georgia to pull it off.
Speaking of Wideguage, his help has been much appreciated. He is like my mentor.
By showing me some of his welding techniques and not laughing at my own skills he has helped me advance to a level where I feel more comfortable with the welder in my hand..
By sharing his little tricks and tips to body work he has helped me tremendously.
4x4x4crewcab,
Thanks for compliment.
Yes, I couldn't agree more! Having this website and forum helps A LOT.
I wouldn't be where I am with my project right now if this place wasn't here and everyone wasn't so helpful.
It makes a big difference when you have a support group and knowledge base like this to draw on for information and inspiration.

Thats an incredible amount of work. Looking great. I hope it looks as good assembled as it looks during it's restoration. Great job, John.

The paint is not an exact match. But thats to be expected having painted the parts months after painting the cab. (different weather conditions, heat, humidity, drying location, etc.) A backyard paint job is hard to duplicate because its not a controlled paint booth. And having everything ready to paint all at the same time is next to impossible in an open environment.
Knowing that this would probably happen I fully intend to repaint the entire truck once more after its completely assembled.
This will give me a chance to apply at least one extra coat of paint, correcting any color varyances and repair any nicks, dings, or scratches done during re-assembly. And one more chance to go over my amature body work too.
With the door jambs, firewall, and under hood already painted there will be minimal masking required and it wont be an obvious complete color change. (Remember, the donor truck was blue)
Painting it while apart allowed me to pay special attention to those areas.
No matter how it turns out, I cant lose sight of my overall goal. And that is a rust free truck that at least looks a little better than when I started.

I think your truck is going to look great just because you did disassemble it and paid close attention to the details. That will always beat a repaint on an assembled vehicle no matter how good a job was done. That's my opinion anyway. I really hope to use your restomod experience to get me through mine. Too bad it couldn't have been done in 7 days ala Overhaulin'. Maybe that would be a good project for this group. Take a good truck, completely redo it and then auction it off to help the world? Shark and Widegauge could direct the rebuild. Still a great job Shark, .

I guess it is coming along quickly, but of course I had planned to have it done looong before now. Plus, Ive only been working on it during the week-ends as weather allowed.
It started out as a simple "quick" cab swap and has snowballed into a frame-up rebuild.
Nope, no photo album, just whats posted here. But this thread can be followed all the way back to the beginning if someone wished to.
The color is an 05-06 Ford color called Light Tundra Effect. The color code is DV.

When you get started let me know. Ill be glad to help any way I can. Hell; Just bring it over here and we can knock it out together. Maybe we could even get Wideguage to drop by and show off his talents as well.trukcrazy wrote:I really hope to use your restomod experience to get me through mine. Still a great job Shark

Just got the doors on. Now you can see the color difference.
For me its a non-issue. Like I said, Im still gonna shoot one more coat of paint over the whole truck once its completely assembled. That will take care of the color differences and the missed bodywork. (Dings, scratches, etc.)

That's exactly what i was hoping you would say! I'll have it shipped over right away! It will be coming next week. I already told my wife to get it ready and the shipper will pick it up Monday. Thanks Shark, I knew I would find someone to help out. I will be home in August, so I will come by and check on it......................................
Just kidding, but I hope I got you going at least a little bit.

This set shows how the body lines and seams between the door and the cab match up. Not bad.
Im very happy bout this. Having used my doors on a donor cab I was worried about them not lining up very well.
