cleaning solution for getting grease out of carpet?

Post by dotcentral »

Anyone got a good product for getting old grease & stains out of carpet?

This isn't exactly truck related. I messed up the carpet in my Liberty hauling a few parts for my truck, so maybe it is.

Go to a local GM dealer and ask for a KENT product called acrosol (sp?)

If you can't find that, 3m adhesive remover might also work. Usual disclaimers apply (test on inconspicuous spot etc...)

If you know anyone who's got a carpet shampooer, they usually have a hand held upholstery attachment. Fill it up with any good detergent,(I use just a solution of laundry detergent and water) and repeatedly clean the greasey area. It should come out with some elbow grease.

Extremly hot water and clorox 2 or tide. Let the clorox 2 or tide soak first.

I know a guy who swears by lighter fluid, the kind you use in ZIPPO lighters. Have never tried myself, for obvious reasons, but it's supposed to work.

A cleaner with citrus oil should work well for grease
BTW, after I've been working on my truck, I use dishsoap with citrus oil in it to clean my hands. It works as well as any commercial hand cleaner I've tried, and costs a lot less! :$$:

I use a great All Purpose Cleaner from Poorboy's World (they make incredible detailing supplies as well). If you mix the stuff 3:1 with warm water, let it sit a minute or two, and then shampoo it you will get great results. I have used this to remove grease and worse from my carpets.

If you want to just try a little bit for your spot, drop me a line and I will mail you some.

My dad gave me some great stuff called Purple Power. Not sure if that's the real name or not. But he got it from a guy that does detailing. It's amazing! It's an industrial degreaser. I used it under my hood and took off all the grime with the Purple Power and a power washer. No Scrubbing. Any way the old man says it works to get the grease out of his shop clothes too. If you could find it I'd try it.

I have used electrical contact cleaner quite a few times before.
Spray it on and blot it up dont rub it, it will smear the stain.
