I'm sure you're right on that...
After the rubber has had a chance to warm up and relax it will lay flatter.
You could probably speed up the process with a heat gun.
(that's what I would do)
Heat guns get really hot so I'd use the wide attachment to distribute the heat...
If you don't have a heat gun, you could use a hair dryer.
I can't imagine not having a heat gun in my tool arsenal...
I use mine all the time... mostly for electrical work.
I don't like using crimp connectors, but when I do use them, I strip the plastic stuff off of them first.
You can get a much better connection that way. Then I use shrink tubbing to cover the connection with at least 1/2 -3/4 extra on each side.
I have had standard crimp connectors fail on me before, but I have not had my method fail yet.
