Yep, I'd say the "bad guys" know how to get something if they want it.
In regard to just "swapping" ignition switches, if the truck is an early Bump the switch assembly will have round connectors where it plugs into the harness where the later Bumps have flat terminals. I'd do the "jumper" from the positive + battery terminal to the + side of the coil and then cross the positive + cable solenoid post to the start terminal on the solenoid to get the truck to start. It takes about 20 seconds or so if you have a long enough jumper made up to reach the coil. Watch you don't ground the wire you extend to the coil or you'll see BIG bright sparks fly.
