You are correct. I was looking at a diagram for a later Ford with an electronic regulator. I had just dealt with changing a idiot light to a guage cluster recently and had this problem. The regulator was excited through the light and if the bulb was bad or missing it would not charge. I see that it is different on the older ones. I have never had a truck without gauges so I had never actually looked into it. Hawkrod

This #98 is connected to #904 behind the glove box? So it should still be charging?

Yes, just be sure that the 904 wire that went to the instrument panel idiot light is not shorted out on anything...
After that if you still have charging problems I would look at having the alternator checked and if it is ok, then I would suspect the voltage regulator (common part to go bad) :2cents:

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...
