You were able to pull the control assembly out a little or had to work in confined space by pushing it up where the radio was? You've got more patience than me man, for sure. I'm going to charge the ac, left something loose and lost the charge, if it cools great, if not, I'm guess I'm going to drop the a.c. box out, and probably break some stuff doing it.

This great song mentioning a flatbed Ford was released on May 1, 1972, the band’s first single. 72 was a good year, ah yes.
Unfortunately, the ladies above are not my girlfriends.

i have never done that. with the controls. the a/c box isnt that hard to pull out either. it just takes a lot of bolts to get it out.

I know I'm coming in on this really late but I was just doing this same job. Back behind the radio is a support bracket that has to come out or the radio can't move back far enough to come out. The support bracket will bend a little and let you push the radio back some but not far enough. With the motion, you think the radio is free but it isn't. You have to remove that back support bracket. Removing that bracket is tough.
I'm actually pull all my factory AC stuff and putting it on ebay.
I'm using the factory control head to run my hot rod air setup.
