Ok. I found the condensor for the voltage regulator. How do you test the condensor?

if the radio has a whine to it when the engine is reving and the condesor is hooked up and grounded then the condensor is bad. if it is static or another moaning type of sound the problem is in the radio.

I checked at the local parts store and they only have the condensors that go in the distributor. Is it the same thing? I know the connector is different. The condensor at the regulator has a pig tail connection.

i looke dat oriellys website. it shows a alternator condensor with part number g125. and the picture looks more like it goes inside the cap with the points. i then looked a tthe igniton and starting condensors and it also showed part number g125 and other part numbers as well. like g125p

I got mine at advance auto as bad as I hate getting parts from them. :thup:

if I replace the voltage regulator do I need to replace the condensor? I saw a post that said if I replace the voltage regulator with a solid state unit it would eliminate the need for a condensor at the regulator. is that correct? The regulator needs replaced. It is charging at 16volts

16 is too much. i read that the mechanical regulators can be adjusted to the voltages it outputs. i have no idea how to do it.

So, if I replace the old voltage regulator with a new unit, do I need to replace the condensor?
