I would try inserting the key and try turning it and wiggling it around. As a last resort... the glove box is made of cardboard and is held in by screws. Two of the screws are a few inches to the right and left of the center just inside the bottom of the door. You could push the glove box up from under the dash as close to the front as possible and rip the cardboard away from the screws. Then, from the inside, you can remove the two screws that hold the latch to the door. When you're done, you could repair the cardboard with a little glue.

That's great that you have it out. Maybe soaking it in penetrating oil or liquid wrench for a day or two would help.

Whats to soak? It clean inside. The button moves freely when pushing the tab down. I think something broke inside and fell out.

I thought maybe something inside was rusted or dirty. You could very well be right that something is broken.

I guess I can take it apart to see. There's roll pin holding it together.

Or just do what I am about to do. Weld the #$%@ door shut! Sorry couldn't resist. It is a fairly common problem with the latch. I remember having problems back when I drove bumps when I was young. Since there is no lock & if you are not critical on correctness the '60's trucks just had a knob like a pull on a drawer BUT they also had a spring load mechanism that held the door shut which was removed in the bumps in favor of 1 of Ford's "better ideas". You got to be old enough to remember those commercials. :hmm:

I agree with taking it apart. The way it is, it's worthless.

OK, The latch button has a mind of its own. It decided it was going to work like it supposed to. So I put some synthetic brake caliper grease in the little holes enough to get lubed and working smoother.
