Hey, none taken. I, ummm, might have been guilty myself of hijacking a thread or two in the past.

Actually, I'm loving the input this thread is generating. I've done some searches on the net, and have found the toggle switches all over the place, but none of the rotary style that I have. Maybe I'll start a new thread on chicken head switches!

Back on subject...I recently acquired a F600 dash myself and I after hooking up the speedo and taking the F100 out for a spin I noticed the speed was off by about 10 mph. Anybody else have that problem? The F600 dash had a reducer (i think) connected inline with the back of the speedo where the cable would screw into, so I took it off. I don't think that it would connect to the speedo cable (thats why I took it off). Let me know if you know..

rusty2872,

I took my truck out with a GPS unit. According to the GPS, I was spot-on up to 40+ MPH. At 50, the speedo read 51; at 60, it read 62-ish. At that point, I decided the old girl was getting too excited driving that fast, and brought it back down. But I was very surprised (and very pleased) that the speedo was as accurate as it was. Also, since it reads a tad higher than I'm driving, I know that I won't be ticketed for driving a bit faster that I think I am.

I don't have a reducer, by the way. I connected the speedo cable straight to the back of the speedo. You might check the speedo gear at the transmission; maybe it got replaced by the wrong gear by the PO.

Seriously, regarding speed differences I have wondered the same. I can't help but be convinced tire size has something to do with it.... Are yours the original size? My F250 originally came with 16.5" rims and bias ply tires. Now it sports 16's (as they are not two piece and are far safer I hear) and radials. I wonder does that ultimately equal a smaller tire height and therefore a higher speedo value than actual ground speed. Not convinced the F600 speedo has anything to do with it.... One down side is faster odometer climbing!!! I downloaded an iphone app called "awesome HUD" as I don't have a GPS unit. It is basically a speedometer app that can be used as a heads up display in the vehicle windshield. I think it's pretty cool. My neighbor uses it in his '55 Chevy that doesn't have an operational speedo. It shows my speedo off by about 2mph near the 40 mark and incrementally higher at 50 and 60. So I'm safer from Johnny Law I guess but my miles are rackin' up faster and my MPG calculations are likely too high as well.

Here's a screen shot I just took:

Incidentally this reads exact when I am driving my 2007 Accord with stock size tires.

Looking at that F600 cluster, can those two chrome dials on either side be removed for additional gauges such as a tach??? That would be super sweet!!!

Oh, gad, I can see it now. I'm going to be the only one on the forum with a "chicken head switch" in my truck. May as well change my avatar! In fact, guitar amps are the only place that I've ever heard the reference. Maybe I'll replace the factory bezel with a dial that goes up to 11 (reference to Spinal Tap, for all the young 'uns on the forum).

I'm actually thinking about a tach on one side, and an analog clock on the other side. I just have to find something to fit, and figure out how to attach it to the cluster. I can probably find an AutoMeter tach that will be a close match, but I'll probably have to find some old Ford clock on ebay or something.

Yep. Most likely.

I'd LOVE to have one but you may be the only guy who does. Leave it like it is I say. It's part of the trucks history. Not like a smack on the a** by a Honda Civic history though. It's rather a cool, unique piece of its history....!
