The best upgrade I've done on my truck so far is when I took it from their driveway and put it in mine.

I have another to add. The 460 with C9 heads, early timing set, recurved distributor, Edelbrock Performer intake, headers, shift kit in the C6.

So far the best upgrade I have done to my highboy is converting it over to power brakes.

It would have to be the conversion to electronic ignition. With points I was getting 13 miles to the gallon. Now, two tanks of gas later I am getting 14.5 mpg.

Mine was converting over to manual. Had a tired C4. Grabbed a wide ratio 3.03 from a 1983 F100 that already had a Hurst shifter installed. I thought the improvement in efficiency would have been minimum at best (I really only wanted a manual to make it more fun to drive) but I was surprised when I noticed I didn't have to fill up as much as I used to, overall. Plus the engine turns more freely and is drastically quicker off the line. I could only imagine how much better fuel mileage would be with an overdrive but I'm satisfied with what I ended up with. 8) I also had Flowtech full-length headers installed that really help it on the bottom end and makes it sound great too. My next upgrade will most likely be taking the big bias tractor tires off and stick on some modern wide street radials.

I just did this with the same kit, great move!!
robwymer wrote:Did another great upgrade this weekend - replaced all the lock cylinders so that I can lock and unlock both doors from outside again, and the doors match the ignition, all for around $40!

Here's what I did:

I bought the set off e-bay for about $40. There is at least one for sale right now for $40-$50 shipped, item #350438201964.

One note on installation: The door locks came as pictured with a flat armature which had a circle in it. I had to clean up the armature on my old locks and install them on the new lock cylinders, a very simple and rewarding process.

Additionally, replacing the ignition cylinder was very simple.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Insert your key in your old ignition cylinder and turn to accessory position.
3. Insert scratch awl tip or something sharp and hard into small dot on face of ignition cylinder and simultaneously turn key to left. I had to sharpen the tip of an awl with my grinder.
4. Remove old cylinder.
5. Place new key in new cylinder, turn to accessory.
6. Place key and cylinder into ignition switch.
7. Use scratch awl to push small dot on new cylinder, simultaneously turning key to left.
8. Finish pushing cylinder into switch.
9. Reconnect battery, driver her around, and lock the doors when you're done - without having to fish around for another key!

I have converted my f100 to power brakes.

This month i will install the power steering, when it arrive from USA.

There is no power steering gearbox for three on tree trucks here in Brazil.

Installing valve stem extensions on me wheels. I have the stock mag style hubcaps and it was very difficult to check/inflate my tires - sometimes having to remove the wheel cover to get it done. I got some chrome ones from the local parts store. Cost me about $5 and they don't leak at all. :D

Do you have any video footage of your truck with the motor running? Would really like to see that in action.

Here you go: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/11548 ... st14986274

...the video is where i finished up the exhaust. Right now I'm waiting for my powdercoater to finish my wheels, then new tires and an alignment.

All of them are good! As mine is still in the build process, I am willing to bet that the 521 big block is going to be the best mod yet! Although the power brakes, power steering, disk brake, DJM lowering, Fuel cell, Mad Dog headers, wiring harness, dash panel, LED / HID lighting, Cal-Tracs, are all going to be really nice!
