I just installed 3 point seatbelts in my 67

Re: I just installed 3 point seatbelts in my 67
The seat belt install went ok. I had to tap the holes up top so that took some time. Everything was going good until I install my seat. It moved the belts out. I tried to close my door and it would not shut. It may not have been caused by the seat belts though. I just install some new weather strip for my doors and I am having a hard time closing them. I noticed in your pictures that your retractable piece was kind of pushed out towards the door. This is what mine looked like before I pulled them out. Do you have any issues with your door closing?

Re: I just installed 3 point seatbelts in my 67
These belts were just delivered to my house.
I've got a problem with the shoulder mount bolts.
The holes are already threaded however I can't find a bolt that will fit.
I've tried a 3/8 UNC and it's too big, I tried a 5/16 and it's too small. Is it somehow a metric bolt?
Also the drivers side hole is off center with the outermost part of the metal. Is there something wrong with my cab or is that just how it was sometimes from the factory? The bolt hole is covered about 1/16" or so. Do I just try to cut out that portion or should I be looking into something else that might be a problem.

After using a tap in the already threaded hole, it cleared out whatever was in the threads keeping the 3/8 to fit.rd100 wrote:These belts were just delivered to my house.

I also just got out my tin snips and cut out a tiny portion so the bolt would fit.
They look great and are much better than the original two lap belts.

That's excellent, good job!
I hope they work out well for you.
It seems like whenever I give someone a ride, they have a hell of a time latching the buckles. I did to at first, but I have it down now. It just takes a little time to get used to them.

Resurrection.
I just got my kit, looks great though I didn't do the recon and found out on install that my upper mounting points weren't tapped. Back to the hardware store (I was already there once today). A question though, it says in the install pack not to install 2 points on one bolt, I see that the OP did that in the first post. Any issues? However, seeing what my sheet metal looks like on the floors now I think I'd probably be better off with that single point due to their rusty condition.

Re: I just installed 3 point seatbelts in my 67
Has anyone tapped out the existing shoulder mount to use the provided 7/16" grade 8 hardware? Is there enough material in the mount? I am having a hard time finding 3/8" 24 grade 8 with a flange nut head. Thanks....

Good day Defdes,
In addition to Dan's thread (this one), perhaps my seat belt thread would interest you. I had to tap my inserts and that's covered in detail there:
May I ask for advice on Beam's 140" WSCH300 seat belts?

Re: I just installed 3 point seatbelts in my 67
Thank you for that terribly thorough post!!! Very impressive write up and answered all of the questions I had. I am going to go with the existing 7/16" hardware and re-drill/tap as the heads on the grade 8 3/8" 24 are small and I dont feel like cadging together a series of washers and making a centering sleeve like you had to. What happened to all of the "money shots" showing the final install? They seem to be deleted? I was interested in seeing them.

Good afternoon,
For the benefit of others who may be browsing this thread, I replied to Defdes in a PM instead of posting here in Dan's (since I didn't want to fill up Dan's thread with discussion that didn't pertain directly to his truck/belt install).
Thanks!
Robroy

No worrys Robroy!
For anyone looking to install seat belts who happens to stumble on to this thread, I strongly suggest taking a look at Robroy's post linked a few posts up. His posts are always awesome and his seat belt thread goes into far more detail than mine.

Re: I just installed 3 point seatbelts in my 67
Just an FYI for anyone searching, I tapped the existing mounts to receive the 7/16" 20 bolts that came with the kit. Worked great with plenty of material in the mount for the oversize. I have had 3 cars/trucks that I have wanted to do this mod to, so glad I did. Amazing what having kids will do for you...
