My 72 F100 was named " Slow Ride " partly after the song title and partly because I really enjoy cruising side roads especially in the fall. My 70 F250 project, although it's not yet road worthy, will be called " B52 - IV ". Short version of a long story. Back in the early 80's I bought a 71 F250 2wd. Truck was rough but it ran. 360, 4 speed, power nothing with a wooden flat bed. It was my first bump. At the time I was scrapping for extra cash and had some parts trucks. Well the wood bed gave way to a beat up styleside bed. Then the ratty hood got replaced. Little by little it got fixed up. Then I scored a set of 33x12.50 - 16.5 Ground Hawgs on Jackman white spokes. By then it had a red cab and fenders, a black hood and blue and white bed. It was one work horse of a truck. One night a bunch of guys were shooting the breeze and one pointed to it and said " that old truck is a real bomber ". An old pal of mine replied " yeah a regular B52 ". We all had a good laugh and the name stuck. A cash crunch forced me to sell it. The next one was a 69 F250 with an ailing 390. Dumped a car 390 in it, drove it a few months and resold it. That one was dubbed B52 Jr. Back in 90 another old pal had a 72 F250 given to him. I swapped him some parts and dragged it home. A bunch of welding and engine work later B52 III was hard at work hauling scrap and firewood. Ran it until the cab got too rough to pass inspection. Last spring I spotted my 70 at a local truck body parts dealer. 2 days later it was in my driveway.

I have a '67 F100 that I'm in the process of restoring. I had a female friend over and showed her my progress on the restoration work.

"What did you name it? she asked

" Nothing right at the moment!" I replied " What do YOU think I should name it?

Without any hesitation whatsoever she turned directly to me , looked me in the eye and said " Harrison "

I laughed out loud.

From that day forward my truck was named Harrison.

That's right Harrison. Harrison Ford

When my family first got her, in 73, we called her "Gypsy" because she had a over cab camper (Tiltn' Hilton). I've seen just about every national park west of the Mississippi riding in her.

After I joined the Navy, I got a blue 85 Nissan 720 4x4 king cab. Maybe a friend did this but the Nissan got called "Ltl Blue" and for some reason, I started calling "Gypsy", "Ole Blu".

When my Dad passed, Mom said that Dad said I got "Gypsy" because I was the one that took the most care of her, oil changes, new wheels and tires, tranny filter change, and actually helped my dad re-install the engine and tranny as my mom was packing the camper for another camping trip the next day.

So now, my family knows her as "Ole Blu", PopPop's (my dad) truck. When I'm done with the restoration/update, got my oldest and youngest already fighting over who gets her when I pass.

My grandfather had seasonal nicknames for his truck. None of them would be appropriate in public. especially since the swearing wasn't the worst part, the worst part is the political incorrectness which wouldn't fly these days!
