Re: F600 panel questions
I just did this conversion and the only left over wire was Black w/ Green stripe. So I assume the purple wire went to the Black/Green.
Anyway, another question regarding this conversion. I rewired my harness and hooked everything up to see how it would work. It appears that everything is operational as both of my blinker lights work, the high beam works, speedometer works, amps work. As for my fuel, oil, and temp. When I start the truck, they all "work" as in they begin to move up. But it seems that they read quite a bit differently than my stock 72 gauges did. My F600 gauge cluster also came out of a 72.
It appears that while my fuel, oil, and temp gauges will all move and register with changes, they all display very low. For example, while my gas tank has about 1/2 tank left according to my stock gauge, the F600 gauge shows it below empty. The needle moves up from all the way below empty to about half way below empty when the truck gets started, and if I switch my toggle to my 2nd tank (which is empty), the gauge responds by going all the way to empty.
Oil pressure moves up from the off position, but registers below the L for low. Temperature does the same.
For anyone that has done this converstion to these gauges, is there some modification that needs to be done somewhere between the sending units and the gauges so the gauges display properly? I thought these gauges were just "plug and play", but there seems to be a difference in how they read.
Anyway, I hope my rambling made some sense, but any insight from anyone that has completed this conversion?
Thanks in advance...

Re: F600 panel questions
since you changed clusters the ipvr is set differently for the F600 and your truck. so it needs to be readjusted for your truck. from what i know the fuel gauge being correct is how to adjust the ipvr. you fill the gas tank and thn adjust the ipvr so the fuel gauge reads full. when that is done all of the other gauges should read correctly.

Re: F600 panel questions
Based on what you typed (I had no idea what you were talking about.. ) I did a seach and came up with this thread:
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... hp?p=83615
So hopefully I will be able to figure it out from here. If not, I am contemplating changing out my 4 smaller gauges with the guts of Auto Meter Old Tyme Black gauges like Thunderfoot did with his volt gauge. Attacking the problem from all angles right now. Thanks for the reply Fordman, as I had no idea about the adjustment.

this is the best post in that thread.68F250 wrote:Turn the adjuster clockwise to increase the voltage. Here's a outside and inside pic of the IVR. By turning the adjuster clockwise, it puts more preload on the contacts which causes the arm to heat up more (more 'on' time) before the contacts break.

Re: F600 panel questions
Yeah, I thought so too. Only problem is the thread is from 2006 and the pictures are long gone. I dont even know where to look for this adjustment location...

Re: F600 panel questions
look at part number 10804 in this diagram. http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... upanel.jpg the same piece is onthe backof the cluster. it has a very small hole you can put a small screwdriver into. here is a ebay auction that shows the hole and more what it looks like. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-F-1 ... ccessories

Re: F600 panel questions
Ok, got it... so its the little part that is screwed on to the back of the gauge cluster where (on my F600 cluster) 2 wires plug onto it. I will look at it when I get home and start playing with it to see if the adjustments work for me. Thanks again for recommending this. I missed that entire other old thread and would have no idea about this adjustment otherwise.
If this works, it may save me $180 in gauges that I was going to buy and risk ruining by gutting and trying to mount in the housing (like Thunderfoot did). I say *MAY* save me, because I may just be dumb enough to try doing that anyway.
I will post my results of making this adjustment later.

Re: F600 panel questions
Well, I came home and went to work on adjusting my voltage for my gauges. First thing I did was take out my fuel sending unit and set it to full to see where it registered my fuel gauge. It registered below half at that point. It took about 3 full turns before it registered ar full. Once that was done, I started the truck and it appeared to register my oil pressure at a more realistic level and the temperature gauge began to rise as the truck ran. I turned it off and reinstalled my fuel sending unit and here is a picture of the the gauges hooked up with the truck running after everything was adjusted. Looks like this solved the problem I was having. Now to just finish my gauge panel and get it all reassembled so I can put them back in for good.
Thanks again for the info on this adjustment. I would have never known about it and it was an easy fix.

Re: F600 panel questions
Installed the F600 dash in the truck a few weeks back. Everything lines up, color all matched except for the purple wire and I figured that out. Soldered all the connections to install the new plug and everything works great. Didn't even have to adjust the gauges! In fact, the fuel gauge now works properly, the old one wouldn't read above 3/4 or below 1/4. And of course, it looks great. I'll get a picture and post it up later. Now all I need to do is find an electric tach that's the same size/similar design as the mechanical that's in the dash. Unless someone has a source for a distributor with a mechanical tach drive...
