Headliner Speakers

Post by ford71 »

Has anyone installed the headliner with speakers from LMC? how do the
speakers sound? are they decent quality? What kind of cd player does
the headline hold, I was thinking about a Blaupunkt or pioneer.

I have one. They sound ok but the Alpine stereo my son has will over drive them. He got the stereo from a trade with one of his buddies and it would not fit into the space provided by the headliner. Our truck is very loud and you can actually hear the radio with the windows down. The plastic bottom cover was not tall enough to cover/hold the whole radio/CD player. I just got the measurments of the new radio and took the plastic bottom cover to a sheet metal shop and they made a cover to allow installation of his to big radio. It looks ok, we painted it black to match. We are going to mount 2 more speakers under the dash in the front for more sound. We went ahead and ran the wires for the front speakers when we installed it. Hope this helps. Charles

lol Yea I understand about the box in the seat. We put the radio in and wired it all up on a table in the garage. Solder, heat shrink, everything. Got the front and rear seperated and did right and left on each side so passenger and driver has a r and l. We used the front wires for under the dash and rear for the headliner. It comes with a antenna extention to hook the one you have into it and its way to long so we just wound up the extra and wire tied it up out of site under the dash by the glove box.Good luck and let us know how it comes out. There has been some controversy elsewhere regarding sub placement. I can't imagine anything fitting under the seat. I created a cardboard box about the dimension of my amp (2"x11x11) and can barely make it fit under there. Someone else swears there is room for a full set of giant Altec Lansing Voice Of the Theaters (ok I'm exaggerating) under there.

How would you suggest installing subs in our trucks without removing the cab tank?

thanks

I haven't looked too closely at this yet, but I don't have the stock seat in my 67 (don't know what this bench seat is from), but I'm sure I'll figure something out. When I do, I'll post it. Voice of the Theaters huh? Now that's a challenge!

I installed some pioneer 4" speakers in the headliner because the ones that came from the factory only handle 10 watts.... Lame!!!!

The unit is pretty cool though and sounds good.

well, i have a guy that is doing my stereo for me. I took the gas tank out of the cab and made room for sound behind the seat. :D He is putting in a 1000 - 1200 watt system, 2 tweeters, 2 mid-range, 2 subs, 2 Amps and stereo and even doing all the wiring for me. Also, he is building a custom box behind the seat as well and doing it for $400.00.

Well, I went out yesterday and looked specifically at this in regards to where, if any place, you can install speakers. Pretty slim. Even this headliner speaker setup would be wimpy. Just not much room. Mids and tweeters maybe, but nothing to carry any bass. I don't have the stock seat, so I don't know what I'll have once I do, if I do, but yes, there's not much room under there. I'm leaning towards a center console maybe, but that's tough with this stick-shift. We'll see.

All I have in mine is a Sony X-plode am/fm single CD and twp older Pioneer 6x9's in the doors. I bought a set of the metal door panels and used them instead of cutting the doors. They fit perfectly in the holes already in the door behind the panel. I think it sounds great. It has enough bass for me even though I'm sure it can't be heard from 5 miles away like everybody seems to like them these days.
I can't hear good enough as it is from all of the firearms and industrial equipment I have been around all my life so it is enough bass for me.
I did'nt have to cut the dash or doors for this installation and I am very happy with it.
I think one thing pretty important for good sound is speaker seperation. I have plenty of that. The sony seems to have enough power to supply me with all of the bass I like but like I said you can't here it five miles away

Yeah, someone already cut my door panels, so I'll probably use them. Just be sure to spray sound deadener in the door and have good window felt so the window doesn't rattle too bad. A truck is a pretty small space, so no matter how you do it -- these speakers are going to blast right at you.

It's funny what you say about being heard "5 miles away". I remember a time when I used to drive around with the windows down and the stereo playing loud -- now I see a kid doing that and I ask "why does he have to have the window down?" I guess I never knew how stupid that made me look :stupid:

woaaanelly, I just installed new window felt and am having the floor and firewall rhino lined, so it should be pretty quiet in the cab. the highliner still has'nt come. I want to put a 6x9 under the dash for now, and a sub behind the seat later after i can relocate the gas tank. anyone know if a 6x9 will fit under the dash?
