Rhino Lining the cab

Somewhere here I noted a use of Rhino Lining in the cab. Since my truck will not be my show truck (for now ) I thought this might be a good alternative to the $100 rubber mats I see in the catalogs. Has anyone else done this and does it stay looking OK? I'd probably still put in floor mats, but after I get the new floor pan installed, I'm thinking this would hide a mutitude of sins as well. Anyone done this? Has anyone done it themselves as opposed to having it done? What do you spray it with? I have a shultz gun.

I just had it done. don't know how it will hold up as it is only 2 days old. the rhino liner people said it would go for 2 years before fading and that it was chemical resistant. it looks pretty good. I did it to avoid buying the 100+ $ floor mat and the 170 $ fire wall insulation from LMC. it cost me 300 $ to have it done. My brother did herculiner in the cab of his '86 4x4 and it immediatly started peeling (especially once it contacted with brake fluid). I've seen rhino liner in truck beds that has been there for years and it looks perfect exept that it fades and gets a white powdery film on it. There is a product called "Rhino Shine" that is like armourall for rhino liner that is supposed to shine it up.

So you spent $300 to save $270?

I've seen it (bed liner) in the auto parts stores by the gallon, but it may be like this herc-o-liner stuff. If it's going to peal away, that would not be worth it. I assume it's all in the prep work too. I'm not sure I'd do it for $300. I can carpet it for far less.

I just had it done in my cab by armacoating. A bit better stuff than rhinoliner and the finish is finer that rhino. Kinda like line-x texture.

I love the stuff in my cab. I put the new LMC firewall insulatior on and carpet over the armacoating. Deadened the cab like you can't belive. Sounds like a mercedes when I shut the doors. No peeling or problems of any kind with the armacoat. I recommed the stuff but it is $300 inside the cab. Worth it to me if it's gonna last a long time.

It is definitely all in the prep I herculined a grill gaurd and nerf bars on my '97 and it has held up for 2 years in the wyoming weather, if it peels inside a vehicle there was a major problem with the prep.

I am planning on herculining my floor after I get the rust fixed. If the other liners are anything like herculiner you need to paint the interior first.

forgot to mention Acetone and Xylene will soften and eventually strip herculiner wouldn't be suprised if brake fluid did it too.

My oldest daughter did it in her cab a year or so ago. She works with horses and is always coming in muddy. She just squirts some Simple Green on it, then opens the doors and hits it with the hose , and it looks GREAT! She went up to the back window and I think it quieted things down pretty good too!

I rolled both sides of the bottom of my cab with Hurculiner. (See Attatchments) So far I like it.
I dont plan on throwing any more than rubber floor mats down but will see how it looks and wears after I get the rest of the truck back together.
Should deaden sound for sure and help keep heat out of the cab.
That stuff is so hard as long as you get all the edges real good, (Yes, prep is everything) and cover both sides, our floor should be the last thing on your truck to rust.
Yes it covers a lot of imperfections too if your like me and weld at a novice level.
When you roll two coats on, (Like the directions tell you to) replacement pans dont look so 'patched in' because it hides a lot of the weld.

I read that it was oil, solvent, and chemicle resistant. But the brake fluid peeling statement makes me worried.
I dont think it will realy peel unless the prep wasnt done good or the brake fluid is allowed to puddle and remain for long periods of time.
And after going thru all of that work, why would you let something leak all over it and stay there?

I noticed you went outside the cab sill with the liner. Interesting idea. I like it!
Especialy since that area tends to scuff.

Can Hurculiner be re-coated after it cures or another coat be rolled on top after months/years? Will it stick to itself?

That's a good question. I don't really know. I've patched a few places in the bed where I've gouged the Herculiner. It seems to work OK although it's a different shade of black due to the fading that someone mentioned earlier. I'm not sure why I did those sills as mine were in great shape. I do loke the look although on my blue truck, I decided to stop at the rubber seal. I think I got started with that stuff and couldn't stop. Probably lucky I didn't continue right down the side!

IIRC they want you to put Acetone on the old stuff then after it dries you apply the new coat.

I did my 69 Jeepster Commando a couple of years ago with the gallon stuff.Prepped it good first.........rolled it on with the special roller brush and it is rock solid with no fading or chalking.Saved a ton of money and it looks great too.
