AM/FM Radio Speaker Recommendations??

Post by ejgator »

I'm getting ready to install the AM/FM radio I bought on eBay. I tested and it works fine.

I want two speakers, and I need suggestions (brand, size, etc) and also thoughts about mounting location. My doors are completely open right now, no hardware in them at all but interference between speaker/window glass/regulators/etc comes to mind as a possible problem.

I don't need high-tech devices since I usually just listen to talk radio or a country music station.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I looked through the tech articles, and didn't find one that addressed this particular question. Did I miss one?

Thanks,
Gator

If your not wanting to cut holes in the doors these could be an alternative. Just ran across them in the Macs catalog while on the throne. They fit under the seat at only 2-7/8 high 8x11 with 120 watt capabilitys. They are in an ABS enclosure with a 5.5in wolfer and 2 piezo tweeters.

In your case with talk radio and Country you might get a little better quality sound with the dual speaker setups that mount in the dash under the grill in the stock speaker location.

I'd suggest picking up another pair of door panels and just mounting the speakers there, and save your present panels for when you want to return it to stock. There's enough clearance for speakers there, and is where it seems a majority of people mount them.

Thanks for the responses. I'm actually going to replace the panels with fabricated masonite, upholstered panels. I guess when I get to that point I can determine a good location.

In the meantime, if anyone has pictures of installed speakers, that would be a big help, as well as what speakers were used, and where they were obtained.

Thanks

I just remembered 460's reference to Mac's. The dash unit appeals to me.
Thanks Tony for your suggestion about the overhead mount.

You guys are great.

I have two 4.5 inch speakers under the dash mounted so they are facing down. I also have two 4x6 speakers in the pockets on either side of the gas tank facing the gas tank. I may as well charge my camera to get a pic of those.
