F250 Camper Special

Post by dablack00 »

Ok, well, I picked up a 72 F250 Camper Special a couple of weeks back. It only have 25k miles and is very clean. I really want to make it nice so I'm pulling the frozen 360 and having it rebuilt, along with the C6. I'm also going to clean up the engine bay like that 356 mile truck that keith has pictures of. Very clean, very original. My Camper Special has AC, PS, PDiskB, and the bid Dana 60 in the back. I can't wait to post up some pictures, but it looks like the forum can't do that right now.

Today I have taken off the straight grill, rust free radiator support and front fenders. I should have the motor out for the rebuild this week.

thanks
Austin

Ok guys I'm not going to show pictures of the camper special until it is done, but I will show everything as it goes on. I'm fixing up this truck for sale and I only want to show the finished project. Its getting a rebuilt motor, rebuilt C6 (broader performance kit), rebuilt AC and just about everything else. The truck has been sitting in storage since 79 and the inside looks great.

I just got this front and rear suspension from a 70 crewcab long bed that one of the local guys (Jimmy) is putting on a modern diesel setup. The crew cab was a running driving truck that just had the front brakes rebuilt. Can anyone ID this rear end? I know its a Dana, but can you tell if its a Dana 60 or what?

Here is the rebuilt 390 that is going in. It came out of a 68 galaxie that one of my buddies was rebuilding. He had the motor rebuilt and then found out the car was just too rusty to mess with. I got the motor for a song. The camper special originally had a 360 in it and I might even put the 360 sticker on the air cleaner lid. I'm not sure. I want it to look absolutly original.

And just for kicks, here is me pulling a 410/C6 combo out of a 66 mercury wagon. I sold this drivetrain to a buddy that is fixing up a 66 mercury marauder.

Well, I got the camper sold off the back of the truck. It was an ordeal to get that camper off the truck and onto a trailer. The bed is perfect except for two small dents at the front from where the camper shifted forward. I don't think the truck has ever been without a camper on it. The bed floor is perfect with original paint.

The rear bumper was on rails so you could slide it in or out for when the camper was in the bed or not. Its a pretty slick setup. I have promised it to a local guy (austintom on this site), but if he doens't get it I might sell it or clean it up and put it back on.

I'm not going to post pictures of the truck until I'm done.

Here is a picture of the interior when I first got it. Very dirty.

I would like to see the pictures of your truck. I acquired a 69 F-250 that I am considering redoing for a tow vehicle. I just don't know how much time I will have to do it. Let me know when you are ready to sell.

Ok, here is a picture of the truck the first day I got it. The camper is now gone. I'm currently cleaning the engine bay for the 360/C6 combo that will go back in once cleaned up.

I lifted the bed myself. It wasn't too hard, but I really should have waited for a friend. I'm glad I didn't pull anything. Also, here is a shot of the aux tank w/ what I think is some camper special wiring. I'm not sure. The truck only has 24,000 miles on it, so everything is original.

Here is a shot of the never been touched bed. The only thing that has ever been in this bed is the camper. Thats all original paint. There are just some little spots of surface rust that pops up the second I took the camper off.
