frame width of F600???

Post by dablack00 »

I've got my old 68 sitting next to a 74 F600. I've already got the instrument cluster out of the 74, but what about the engine and trans. The engine is a 370 w/ a 5 speed and I want to swap it over to my 68. I only paid $200 for my 68 short bed and I thought it had a 240/3speed in it. Well the 240/3speed turned out to be a little car six. So out it comes and in goes the 370/5speed. For those who don't know, the 370 is an industrial version of the 429/460 engines. It isn't a power house, but it is free. The f600 doesn't have engine perches like what we are used to. The engine sits on a cross brace at the front of the block. The manifolds come together in the middle and go straight down and then the exhaust turns back. I would like to just pull the entire engine, trans, cross member and put it all in the 68. Is the frame width on the F600 the same as the F100/250/350? It is a ways up to my storage and I won't be able to get up there for a while. Next time I go, I will take a tape measure, but I just wanted to see if anyone already knew.

I know the 5 speed has really low first and second, so I plan to put 2:50 gears in the 9". Just wanted to say that before someone else brought it up.

thanks
Austin
