Wing window seal question 72' F100
Hey there, Do all wing windows howl when the wind hits 'em. I know I need to refresh the seals at some point, but it's the only place I really hear anything when I drive down the road. In fact my old 88' ford van had wings and I remember they caused a fair amount of ambient noise too...is this just the nature of wings ?

No, they shouldn't howl but the outside mirrors do make a lot of noise. Wing windows whistle when they leak, try pulling in on the handle and see if the noise changes. A quick "fix" is shove a penny between the handle latch and window channel.

Mine had a folded up business card. New vent window handles could help if the plastic piece that helps pull them tight is missing. I know one of mine is, but I bought new ones to help fix the problem along with new vent window seals when I put her back together.

And this is another reason I love the 67's. The vent window latch is all metal and they still close tight.ezernut9mm wrote:my wings must be high class, they have quarters shimming them.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

most of the old trucks i have owned have had problems with sealing the wings. i think after forty years of people pulling the wing closed with the latch tends to wear them out.
