Factory Buckets

Post by kentdaryl »

A couple of questions for you guys who switched from a factory bench seat to the factory buckets. Do you sit lower in the buckets, do you have the same amount of legroom, and are the seat bottom and seat back angles the same as the bench? I bought a set of factory brackets yesterday and I'm wondering weather to use them or not, my interior color is green which doesn't match any Mustang interior color and to go through the expense of having seats custom upholstered to match my interior only to find my body doesn't fit the new seats that well would be a huge waste of money.
Thanks, Daryl

i haven't done this but if you just take the bench out and put the buckets in without bolting them in you could try them and see how they fit.

Yeah, except I don't have the seats, just the brackets. Someone must have the factory buckets, I've seen a picture of them somewhere on the site. Thanks for the advise though. If it doesn't work out someone here would probably be interested in them.

Daryl, you lookin to put in the same factory buckets that came in some of the old ford pickups? If so, ask Comet if he would let ya borrow his buckets. He has a set that are not bolted down yet.

I got a set of '68 Mustang buckets I'm going to put in my '68 in a couple of months. I took the brackets off the bench for some sort of reference, but I'll probably be making some which I'll let everyone know how it goes.

I've got a set of buckets out of a 89 GP, that I reupolstered a few years back. They're the perfect color for my truck but I'm afraid of mixing GM & Ford parts! Isn't that like playing with VooDoo?

I put a set of factory buckets in my crew cab. I didn't sit any lower, only difference I noticed was the buckets are harder(denser). When I climb in and out.

Looking for more bracket sets for other truck interior's

I have a set of factory buckets in my 71 short bed. They are the same height and angle as the factory bench. The seat bottom does hold you better, so when you go to slide out, it isn't like sliding down hill like with the old bench.

Not with the stock Mustang brackets, at least the ones on my seats. I just recently mocked them up inside my cab and I'm definately gonna have to make some brackets. Probably get to it in a week or two.
Hey Marz, did you go to the show down here at knotts? That day turned into a real mess for me, sorry we couldn't hook up!

The stock Ford truck bucket seats are older mustang seats. The only thing special about them is the big truck brackets. The brackets are huge to get the seats up high enough. I know Keith has some pictures of the brackets around here somewhere. If you look in the the NPD catalog for our trucks, they have the seat covers for our bucket seats. You can see that the ford truck buckets seats for the 67-69 ford trucks were 65/66 mustang seats. The bucket seats for the 70-72 ford truck look like 67/68 mustang seats. That is the cool thing about them. The aftermarket has tons of seat covers for the classic mustang seats so go nuts. Also, if you can score a set of the ford truck bucket seat brackets, then all you need is some mustang seats and they will bolt right in.

After mocking up my '68 Mustang seats in my '68 F-100 I like where they sit height wise withthe mustang brackets and I assumed that the Ranger bracket do set the seat up higher. I'm 6' 2" and done want my head sticking through the roof and also what to move the seats back since I'm putting a gas tank under the bed.

Just remember that the bottom of the seat is flat. So is the cab floor. Make sure you have some way to get the front of the seat higher than the back.
If you look at the seat riser of a classic mustang you can see that it is higher in front than back. That is what the ford truck brackets do. They raise the front up more than the back. Make sure you do the same.
