Mech Stoplamp Switch Help
Does anyone have any advice for me on how to get my Stoplamp switch to work? After taking a couple months off from my 67 F100, (forced exile to Texas for work) I'm back at trying to get my brake & signal lights working.
I have checked all my wiring and the switch, they all work fine. When I bypass the switch, the brake lights work, but I just can't seem to figure out how this darn switch mounted to the brake pedal and push rod. It seems to only mount one way and no matter how many ways I try, I just can't get the switch to work.
Does anyone have a link to a diagram or picture thatt could help me?
Any and all help is appreciated!
Yours, Sean Malis

Hi Sean,
I don't have pics, but if you want to get a better view, find any 65-73 Ford car and look at them - Broncos too... Since you are in Cali, there should be a Mustang show near you every weekend, so go look for a Mustang for sale and crawl under the dash.... the visualization will REALLY help..
BTW, if you aren't using a new switch, get one... they can go bad functionally in the car and work on the bench because of the different forces applied.
hth,
eric

There's your problem, RF, you're not supposed to stand on your head, you're supposed to flip the truck over.

The '67's different I take it. I'll try to get my camera out and get a pic or two of my 67 a little later.

re: Mech Stoplamp Switch Help
Eric, Dennis, Barry & ToughOldFord,
Thank you all for the advice. I look forward to the pics of the 67 switch. I wish that I had the 68 switch, it would be a lot easier. In fact I went to the pic-a-part and ripped the whole assebly, pedal and all out of a 68 so that I might solve my switch problem.
I just don't want to replace everything with 68 parts. The switch problem might be fixed, but getting everything to line up might not work. Plus, it is a lot of work to take everything out and put in 68 parts just to fix a switch.
I have been back up under the dash tonight trying to figure this thing out, no luck. The switch appears to attach to the end of brake push rod and a bolt goes through the switch, push rod and brake pedal. That is all I can figure out.
I did buy a new switch and it just like the one I found in my old truck. I will use it when I finally figure out how to install this crazy thing!
Thanks again for all your help. I look forward to the pics.

re: Mech Stoplamp Switch Help
Keith,
Your pictures provided me with the key to fixing this problem!!! You have saved me a lot of frustration, especially since I'm a beginning shade tree mechanic.
The key to getting this fixed was the bolt and nut. Mine had a hardware bolt installed. I had found the original bolt behind the seat when I first cleaned the interior out. I didn't know what it went to but saved it just in case. Now I know what it was for. My original bolt looks just like the one in your pictures.
My brake light problem is now solved and now I just need to get my turn signals to work.
Thank you everyone!!
