seatbelt hole

Post by JB4020 »

I have the julianos seatbelts to put in my '71 f100 and when i pulled the rubber plug out in the back pillar i didnt see any threads. Do you usually tap that hole or is there something else you take out. Thanks

My 67 has a nut welded on there. Are you sure there are no threads?

No. There is a peice of metal a little further in that has the nut welded to it. Maybe they forgot to weld that on in your truck ?

All the trucks I've parted out had a threaded insert, but I have heard of some owners over the years who have reported no such insert. I don't think I'd wanna trust just hooking the belt mount to the sheetmetal, though.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you though. I want to add 3-point belts to my choptop, but the threaded hole for the upper mount was located in the section of the roof that got removed when the cab got shortened. So I'm planning on welding a nut to some plate steel and then fitting it in up between the inner and outer cab walls, just like a factory installation.

I also have always heard reports of some cabs with no threaded seat belt mounting holes, and that a tapping was going to be required into that solid slug. The whole is likely the correct size for a ??? size tap....

I could not find threaded holes on either side so i decided to tap them and a 3/8 16 tap fit perfectly. I just hope its strong enough with a 3/8 bolt instead of the bigger one they give you. Thanks
