Gauge cluster questions

Post by nadams »

If you have a truck with just the idiot lights and you swap the gauge cluster out for one with all the gauges will the gauges work, or is there something different about idiot light wiring?

You have to change wiring. The charge gauge has to have a shunt while the idiot light doesn't. I am unsure about the oil pressure gauge. It may only require a sending unit change.

Right. If you decide to swap to a full-instrumentation panel, you'll need the underdash harness and the underhood charging harness. Not only does the full-instrumentation harness have the shunt, but the voltage regulator is also wired slightly differently. Read the following thread for more shunt info:

The oil pressure gauge would simply need the correct sending unit on the engine.
