Removing Armrests ?

Post by wildcard »

Before I force a socket in my armrests, I would like to confirm what size socket it takes. I remember in the 67 I got one stuck inside. Don't want to go through that again. I tried a 1/4 in. drive deep socket a little ways but I don't think it will even fit without forcing it. Any advice will be definitly be appreciated.

HMM..I was thinking the 67s were 3/8 but that's been 5 or 6 years ago when I took them off. I thought about using a nut driver but they're all at work.

Im at work  so I cant run out and check, but I think you're correct, as I recall they are 3/8.

Nut drivers work slick for getting those off, no getting your socket stuck.

Thanks everybody. Just so happened, my old running/drinking/getting in trouble buddy stopped by that I haven't seen in a long while and had a nut driver in his toolbox. Since we gave up the old ways we don't get together as much as we should. He's more of a brother to me than my blood kin. But once again he saved the day.
BTW, it is 3/8.

Are you replacing the armrests or just taking them off. OK guys I'm going to let you in on one of my trade secrets here. The snub nose econoline vans use the same armrests as our 68 to 72 trucks and are a lot more plentiful in the wrecking yards. I sell a lot of them on Ebay almost as fast as I list them!

I got mine off and painted it. It was a funky gold color and I painted it white since everything else except the passenger side panel which has to be painted now. Only problem is the interior is the Wimbledon White and the doors are BRIGHT white. Now I have the incentive to redo the entire interior. So there's my summer project.

Underdog, I want to replace them. One is blue and one is brown. They aren't torn or anything, I just want matching ones. What would a pair of good black ones run to 75563 ?

Hey Wildcard, if they're not torn or damaged you can clean them up and paint them with vinyl spray paint. You would probably be surprised at how nice they come out.

Walmart has it, and it workd good too. Just make sure you clean them up good, and I put a couple cotes on the stuff I have painted... Turned out nice. I am painting the brown set that I got from Teacherman gray, when I get home... My :2cents:

$15.00 + $8.95 shipping is what I would ask from Fordification memeber for a set that has no rips or tears and are ready to bolt on. I have a pair of Factory black ones. I might also mention that with dying them ( as I do that as well.) that it's easier to dye a light colored set dark rather than a dark set light. Also to use a quality dye not Plasticote (The official spray paint product of NASCAR) as it will flake off no matter what it says on the can. It may take a month or two but it does flake off. I would and do use a product called ( SEM vinyl dye) and use my spray gun to apply three coats. It's the best on the market and is what Body & Paint shops use to dye the vinyl & trim replacement pieces on cars.
