I was all set for a major battle in trying to get the drums offf the front of my truck. From the picture you can see that they have the same color paint as the body. They are 37 years old! I figured that by now the shoes were way into the drums.
I took the spindle nut off and they came right off!
The inside of the drum is surprisingly smooth, considering the age of the drums. I will be replacing them any way. I already have four new drums.
I plan to pull the I-beams and replace the bushings too.

We did the same thing this weekend. The front drums came off pretty easy, we had redone the front brakes about 12 years ago, so they weren't too bad. The rear brake drums had never been removed, it still had what was left of the original brake shoes. After some PB Blaster and a big hammer we got those drums off too.
