Dash kit for CD player

Post by FRANKdaTANK »

Hey,

I was wondering if anybody on here has any good ideas for mounting an aftermarket CD player in the dash? I bought my '67 F100 without a stereo, but it already has a hole cut-out in the dash. I think I can use the cut-out if I can get some sort of dash kit to hold the CD player inplace since the face of the dash is at an angle. Also, the truck doesn't have any A/C controls or anything under the cut-out.

I saw a white '67 for sale on cars.com a few months ago, that looked like it had what I need (from the pic anyways). But the truck was sold before I got the chance to ask them about the dash kit install.

Any help is appreciated! 8)

Thanks,
Frank

Here is the link to a post that had a similar question. You can use a kit for a Volvo. See below:

haha yeah. I 'll try to get some pics up by Saturday. I was actually quite pleased with the way it looks. It didn't fit as tightly as I hoped it would, so I popped a couple of screws in the little arms in the back to help hold it in place better. I'm hoping to get the stereo and headliner speakers installed this weekend, but we'll see how that goes. I'll let you know

I'm assuming the stock radio post tabs still need bent inward or cut off?

Yes, they are bent in. This way they give a little support that you wouldn't get if they were cut off. You could also bent them back if you wanted to go original in the future.

Awesome!! thanx guys for the quick responses.

Does anybody have any "before" pics showing the cut-out?? And the measurements that are needed to fit the Volvo kit??

The guy that did the custom work to the truck before I bought it, cut out a weird-shaped hole for a head unit, but never finished it. So I don't know what he planned to put there...

Thanks,
Frank

No cutting required. Bend the tabs back and install the kit over/in the hole.

Yea but I need a pic and/or dimensions of the cut-out because I don't know if the dude before me cut the right sized hole. It looks like a custom cut-out like mentioned in my last post.

I'll try to get a pic on here but not sure when.

Thanks,
Frank

Thats weird. The tabs on mine were on the sides of the oppening. Was that for a different radio from the factory or did diiferent years have different tabs. I know my '72 has the same side tabs as my '68?

Not sure what the factory radio was. It was removed when I got the truck. My 68 Ford shop manual shows the tabs on the bottom. I have seen pictures with the side tabs but didn't note the years.

That pic is interesting. One of my next projects is the CD bezel and I was going to use a tab on the bottom of the new bezel to hold it on the lower lip. You radio shaft tabs are in the way.
