turbo defroster 3000 idea!

Post by 1971ford »

i have a plan for a safety and convenient device.

ill call it the turbo defroster 3000 lol

heres the plan. since all of you know that our bump's defrosters only open up a small window of clear windsheild, im hoping by adding the turbo defroster 3000 that it will blow heat with more force into the windsheild where it will kindof spread. thats all in my mind though lol

so here is the beginnings.

ingredients:
-normal defroster hoses
-2 Computer fans
-proper turbo3000 adapter plates :D

opening in dash:

a computer fan's actuall fan's circumfrence matches almost perfectly with the dash's defroster whole.

Mount A:
for the fan to connect to the bottom of the dash, i can create some pretty simple mounts at my work (welding shop :D ). this is what im thinking. have a little mount plate that screws into the fan's 4 holes, and bends at an angle towards the factory vent mounting holes so you can screw the mounting plate on through the factory screw holes on the dash.
Image

Mount B:
i can cut a large whole in a plate that fits the Groove on the defroster hose just like it would be if it was connected straight to the dash.
it will have a little spacer to prevent the fan from ever touching the hose and it will simply mount to the 4 fan holes.

am i crazy?? or will this work :?
what do you think?

well i am going to need a more powerfull fan. a computer fan doesnt have enough power. i just hooked it straight up to my 71's battery and it doesnt seem to blow anymoreair than the factory fan does, but maybe it would be alot better still since its right at the end of the line. too hard to tell. hmmmmmmmm ill start looking for a more powerfull fan in the same size...

Bestbuy or circuit city sell tuner fans for puters. Some with LED's and things as well. More amps = more power...

Another idea is in the console of the newer explorers with rear heat there is a really cool scroll fan setup that my fit under the dash somewhere or even in the air inlet to the heater.

Just thinking outloud...

Yeah Ryan, those bilge type fans are 12v and fairly quiet. Wrap it up in some Dynamat and you would increase the quiet factor a lot, and yes it does have wires and such to hook them up. I could bring one up to show you on Friday...

It gets cold enough in california to turn the heater on? I think a big one with some led lights would be cool. Get them the same color as your truck!

neh i wouldnt want them to really stand out with LED's.

yeah it gets cold in Cali. in the winter it gets to a freezing 30 deg.

and since the 69 will be a tower, its got to go over the mountain ranges, meaning snow and frost.

Ryan, it is used to "exhaust" the inside of a closed engine compartment. Safely removes vapors and such.....so when you hit the key, you dont get a big explosion...............and die
