I was wanting to pull the brain and distributer out of a 1982 bronco 300 cid electronic ignition. I want to rewire it into a 1971 F250 4X4 crewcab. The 71 had a 390 fe with points. I am installing a very built 300 cid I6 with the distributer from the bronco.
Does anyone know how to rewire this to work properly. A diagram would really help.
I have considered aftermarket ignitions, I would like a mag, but I just don't have the money!
Thanks to all!, , Alot of the research on this engine came from fordification. Thanks to all who have helped. To those that already know this build Im still waiting on clifford headers, I got delivery confirmation today they should be here 7-9 ... finally!
Thanks again!

re: 82 ignition / 71 ford rewire help?
Clemm17,
Isn't the 82' Ford's 1st generation of the TFI ignition? I had an 84 F-150 that had it and I believe Ford had a lot of lawsuits over the TFI as well.
If it is, I wouldn't waste time with it. My .
I'd opt for a Duraspark from the later 70's or a Pertronix ignition for a later 70's 300 distributor. Much more simple.

re: 82 ignition / 71 ford rewire help?
I dont know about the TFI? I know its similer if not the same one they came out with in the mid 70s. Its not throttle body fuel injected, its just an electronic breaker distributer. I havent had any trouble with them. Also as stated above Im just trying to get this engine completed. The engine is well built, I have a ton of money in it, but my money is limited. I decided to use what I have, at least to start. If I could afford it I would go with a mag.

You're just wiring in the Duraspark setup, right?
Some good info / articles.

re: 82 ignition / 71 ford rewire help?
Wow. Duh! Thanks, Thanks Thank You!!!
How simple it is when you see it on paper!
If I understand these drawings correctly, all I have to do is steal the harness off the Bronco that matches the distributer, ignore the extra wires for the oil, temp, ect, sending units and 98% of this conversion is done.
That leaves 2 wires start and run! I should be able to trace those back from my points coil and tie them in to the existing start/run circut.
Duh! I almost feel like a dumbass now! This is increadbly simple.
I just didnt have a clear picture in my head until I saw the drawing.
Thanks again Thunderfoot. I really appreciate this. I cant belive I was worried about somthing so simple!
PS! If anyone needs parts off an 82 bronco, email me, this one is headed for the scrap yard after I get done canniblising her. She is in very good mechanical shape. Threw a rod. Was going to fix and sell her, but decided she could save me more than I could sell it for!
