72-79 Torino/Mid Sized bucket seats?

Post by psquare75 »

Just curious if anyone has done this? I have a set but I'm not sure how they'd go in my 79.

You would need to make your own brackets or find the ultra rare ones that came in our trucks!

NPD has some seat track/slider assemblies for buckets on page 7 of their catalog.

I've done some reading here and I see that early Mustang buckets were a factory option. Wow!

I have a set of 'highback' 69 Mustang bucket seats. Why did Ford use the lowback style in the trucks? I assume the seat brackets I'd need would be the later style, and they should be more or less a bolt in regarding my truck?

I may save a ton of aggrivation, I forgot I had them :-(

you still have to have the brackets to get the seats to bolt in. Here is some that are on ebay. In the photos you can see the brackets that ford used to bolt them to our trucks. Hope this helps

Right... From what I understand and have seen, NPD makes them. I see they list two different sets of brackets, which have the same part # as the Mustang brackets.. They also look the same in both catalogs. I thought the truck brackets were *special*

Am I missing something? :?

I may be seeing it wrong but what I get from Dennis Carpenters book is that is for the seat sliders, Not the brackets that adapt it to our trucks. I could be wrong though. If I am I need to buy a set because I have bucket seats going in mine too.

just a thought, I haven't tried this on these trucks, but I set up my 65 Nova with factory buckets by using two sets of factory bench seat sliders. In fact, I put stock Corvair buckets in my Nova and they look just like factory Nova buckets. All set sliders have a long spring steel wire that connects driver side (on bench) to pass side so when you move knob on driver side it unlatches both sides at once for the seat to slide. Now, the problem you can get into if using two seats of bench seat sliders to operate a pair of buckets is the pass side bucket will end up with the handle on the left (just like driver side), but this isn't really noticeable unless you point it out.
that's a truck alot of folks won't tell you about bolting buckets into an old vehicle and there are plenty of bench seats out there rusting away with tracks intact, but I do NOT know if this will work on trucks, I've only tried on passenger cars. Banjo.

Finding a set of brackets would make putting buckets in our trucks is the simplest conversion. That being said beware of seats that are thicker in the bottom (where your Butt goes) than the eary mustang. This will make the ride height higher. Which can make reaching pedals a challenge for short folks or place the steering wheel in your lap.
I've put seats in that sat crooked, one side higher than the other. A shorter set of bracket's would be needed.
