re: speaker mounting
Not partial to it myself. If it were a bit more finished looking it might look OK. I say cut those babies in. I did on my 72 and really love it.

re: speaker mounting
Something that works really well for mounting door speakers..
Use the appropriate size box for the speaker and mount the box on the bottom of the door with just enough clearance to clear the floor...
You'll get a cleaner sound, the speaker doesn't get damaged buy the moister inside the door, and best of all you only have two screw holes in your door instead huge holes.
My door speakers are boxes about the size of surround sound speakers with "U" Shaped mounts. The speakers are tilted up at about a 45 degree angle.
I have removed my in cab gas tank, so I mounted a 300 watt per channel amp that's bridged and pushing a 10" Pioneer sub.
I still want to mount 2 super piezo tweeters in each corner in the small area between the dash pad and the windshield.
Needless to say... I like a thump in my bump.
Oh... I forgot, I have a Sony 4x45 head unit.
The system sounds pretty good, but lacks the nice crisp highs provided by the tweets.

re: speaker mounting
Hey jcolville...
I've never had any problem with that.
Say you have flat 6x9 boxes.
They just clear the floor and only stick out 3-3.5 inches or so. so essentually it's like they are sitting on the floor up against door right below front corner of the seat.
Speakers these days are better than the old skool ones.
Some Pioneer (or MB Quartz)6 inch round 3 ways produce great mids, add a pair of piezo tweets to bring out the highs.
To bring out the bottom, if you have an in cab tank, you can use a pair of 8" subs in shallow boxes mounted under the seat...
For power, I've seen small sized single channel power amps either mounted to the boxes themselves, or mounted under the seat behind the boxes. You could also use a single low profile two channel amp under the seat as well.
Not only do box mounted speakers sound better than open mounted ones, you also eliminate nearly all the 'buzz and rattle" caused by open mounted ones.
You'd be surprised at the sound quality you can get in yer bump without spending an arm and a leg...

im runnin a panasonic 300watt deck, 2 9"s in the doors, a 800 watt audiobahn sigle channel amp and twin bazooka subs that i have to remove cause there aint no room for it. just set it on the passenger seat. ![Laughing lol](./images/smilies/icon_laughing01.gif)
i think those mounts on ebay are kinda cheesy lookin. looks like a ricer mod. i personally think they look better recessed into the door bottoms

re: speaker mounting
I bought some Pioneer surface-mount speakers online but they turned out to be a little larger than I expected. I thought they would slide a little further under the front of the seat but they were deeper than expected and I also didn't realize that the driver side is wider on the side of the hump than on the passenger side. I got them installed for now but it's not exactly what I was expecting so it's probably not my permanent solution.

I have one of the dual speaker set-ups that LMC sells to replace the original mono speaker. It actually sounds ok by itself.

JC Whitney has a overhead headliner replacement that houses the radio and the speakers up top.I haven't done this yet but I've seen photos from people on this site that have and that's the way I plan to go. Calvin

Here is another headliner, this is the one I have on my wish list. I was told that you have to vent them somehow, or your roof will rust through in humid climates.

How did you mount it to the dash? Did you use the original speaker mount?MAK wrote:

Re: re: speaker mounting
Good question. I should have mentioned that because if you have ever bought anything from LMC you know it's not going to fit... Yeah, I assumed it would screw right in using the same mounting points but it didn't. I ended up using some heavy duty wire-ties and just threaded it through a couple of the speaker holes in the dash and a couple holes I drilled on each side the speaker mount. I was able to draw it up tight to the underside of the dash and it should hold for a few years anyway.sideoilerfe wrote:How did you mount it to the dash?
