window fuzzies interchange?

Post by 1971ford »

ya know how bumps have the fuzzie strips that are suppose to help keep water out of the doors? im thinking it would be really nice to swap in some newer window stripping, you know how newer cars have rubber strips that actually grip and slide agains the window? the fuzzies sure dont do a good job on keeping water out and there is very little chance of water getting in with the modern gripping strips.

what year were cars/trucks first equipped with these? mid 80's or something around there? i figure the first few years that they were made would be more likely to fit into the door with some trimming.
anyone ever done a swap like this?

im going to be doing some investigating next time we go to the junkyard.

Hey Ryan...

I'm pretty sure that in late '71 the fuzzies changed to rubbers...
That's supposedly the only difference between them.
I bought a complete set for my '68 and ordered the newer style ones...
I haven't messed with them yet.
Gonna wait until I get some new paint on it first.

Yes, the 71 and 72 Fords came with the rubber and not the fuzzies. The rubber works way better! I accidentaly ordered a weather strip kit from LMC for a '72 when my Ford was a '69. Glad I did or I might have never found out that these are better!

Are the 71-72 ones rubber all the way around or just on the bottom strip?

ok i just snapped this pic from my moms car. thats the tight fit im wanting in the picture. how nicely does a bump's rubber grab the window? my 71 has the rubber but its all warn and broken away so i cant tell how it used to keep water out.

ill probably have to settle for just some NOS bump-era rubber, ill have to check out the junk yard to see how hard it would be to put the modern stuff like my moms car in the 71.

it was really hard to even get this paper to slide in.

i mainly just want to seal my 71's cab from dirt when were out in the desert spectating races and such to make it a little more luxurious. ive gone through the whole cab sealing every little hole i can find. and to really keep the water away from the internals of my restored-69's doors, even though i por-15'd the inside

Yup, that's the '72 anti-rattle kit that I got. Just like your mama's car. They are way tight just like any modern car.
