quick question about a block heater

are the plug ins universal? mine is rotted away

You're talking about the 110v plug correct? Yes, it is just a plug... should be a standard 3 prong plug in.
If you replace a section of the cable be sure to use the same wire gauge as it has now.

If you're talking about the heater end, they are universal as well. The cords are available with a straight or a 90 degree end.
